Kategoriler meselesi Aristoteles’ten beri tartışma konusu olmuştur. Mantık ve felsefe tarihi akışı içerisinde kategorilerin doğasına ilişkin tartışma sürekli olarak kendisini yenilemiştir. Bu çalışmanın konusu Aristoteles’in kategorilerinin tutarlı bir biçimde okumasını sağlayan John Duns Scotus’un (1266-1308) kategoriler hakkındaki görüşleridir. Çalışmada Aristoteles’in sıkı bir takipçisi olan Duns Scotus’un kategoriler konusundaki görüşlerine yer verilmiştir. Bu bağlamda Scotus’un mantığa ve ikinci niyetlere yaklaşımının, Aristoteles düşüncesinden nasıl etkilendiği genel bir değerlendirmesi yapılmıştır.

The issue of categories has been a subject of debate since Aristotle. Throughout the history of logic and philosophy, the debate on the nature of categories has constantly renewed itself. The subject of this study is John Duns Scotus' (1266-1308) views on categories, which provide a coherent reading of Aristotle's categories. This study gives the views of Duns Scotus, a strict follower of Aristotle, on categories. In this context, a general evaluation of how Scotus' approach to logic and second intentions is influenced by Aristotelian thought is made.
